Summmmmmer!!! Don't you just want to scream it from the mountain tops? Summer has me dreaming about vacation and that of course means vacation homes. From classic Cape Cod and chic Hamptons retreats to rustic Maine camps and ketchy lake houses, there are so many cool ideas to mull through. A very distant reality indeed ... but as I always say, it's good to be prepared! I found this take on a summer retreat on House Beautiful and had to share. It's lake camp meets mid-century mod in the coolest way possible.
"The idea is to let the house look like it was simply dropped in the dunes." - Architect Cary Tamarkin for House Beautiful
"Tamarkin calls the built-ins he designed "elegant camp furniture." They're all made of inch-thick fir plywood, including the living room's platform sofa" - House Beautiful
"The painted cement board panels were inspired by Charles and Ray Eames's midcentury house in Pacific Palisades, California. "- Cary Tamarkin for House Beautiful
"In the dining area, a Saarinen tulip table is surrounded by Hans Wegner chairs." - House Beautiful
"The plywood cabinet doors have routed-out circles instead of knobs, a gesture inspired by 'some Marcel Breuer dorm furniture.' " - Cary Tamarkin for House Beautiful
Happy summering!
