Rockin Moroccan

10/18/2014

Remember that time we went all the way to Morocco in the middle of summer with temps soaring over 115 Fahrenheit just to gawk and swoon over tile mosaics, Moorish architecture, lamb tagine, and leather goods? Oh wait... that was just me.... and my poor husband who I made come with me.
Man... it. was. hot.

The designers at Studio Ko must have gone on the same trip  because this contemporary Moroccan inspired home is just about perfect. The only thing I would add is a bathroom covered in those beautiful Moroccan tiles.

48 Hours in Castine, ME

9/9/2014

We headed up north this past weekend to visit some family and take advantage of what warm weather we have left... summer isn't over until we say it's over right? Chip's family has a house in Castine, ME and it's such a treat. That little town is everything wonderful about Maine all rolled up into a tiny little package complete with boating, breathtaking views, kayaking, historic sightseeing, sunshine, lobster, and more boats. I'm pretty sure the number of American flags hanging around out numbers total people in the town 2 to 1.
We even got to check out the neighbor's house which is this very historic piece of property and I pretty much died when I saw the kitchen. I am still totally freaking out over it. Those beams! That rug! It's just so tidy and perfectly Maine.

48 Hours in Hermosa Beach...

8/25/2014

...and I'm in love!

My sister moved out to LA over a year ago and this past weekend I finally had a chance to go see her. It was a short 2 days, but 48 hours of sunshine and sister bliss was worth the red-eye :) The 100 million photos I took of her adorable baby bump were also worth it...Last chance before that little guy or gal makes a break for it in October!

A Bold Exterior

8/17/2014

The blogosphere has been all a buzz about this adorable camp inspired getaway in the Catskills. Literally everyone is talking about it and looking at the website I can see why... cute, cool, and more cute. I'm keeping that one in my back pocket for a long weekend down the road.

Seeing as The Graham & Co. is getting so much attention right now, I was pretty excited when I came across a feature on the home of one of the hotel owners on design sponge (my fave). What surprised me most about this Catskills home is how incredible the bold exterior is against such a rustic setting. This place is literally inspiration overload. Somehow it's completely contemporary, yet comfy, rustic, and even a little western all at the same time.

"The sofa is a Ligne Roset Togo, I love that it’s low and you can just sink right into it in front of the fire. The wood floors are salvaged from the roofdeck of the SOHO House in Manhattan. They are unfinished, raw, matte, and absolutely beautiful. They are probably the coolest thing about the house and run throughout including the bathroom. " - Amanda Bupp for Design Sponge

"The driftwood on the stairs cutout was found on The Graham & Co. hotel property when we were renovating. It had washed up from the Esopus. I love finding things like this to drop in the house, just re-enforcing the indoor/outdoor feel." - Amanda Bupp for Design Sponge

"The bed is the first prototype design for the beds at the hotel. I have to say, I don’t sleep better anywhere else but here. And when you wake up it’s like being in a treehouse, you really get the sense that you are up in the mountains." Amanda Bupp for Design Sponge

"The overall inspiration for the exterior was basically just paint it black and let the exterior elements pop. It looks great in the summer and in the winter with 2 ft. of snow. The boards were stained black and attached with the rough side out to maintain a very flat and textured look, which relates back to the woods and mountain it sits on."- Amanda Bupp for Design Sponge

If this is what the Catskills are all about sign me up for several long weekends please!

Back to the Grind

We're officially old news. The honeymoon is over and we are back from 3 weeks of bliss in South Africa.

While I plan to devote a substantial post to our trip once I've caught up on real life, as a highlight I can tell you that it was the trip of a lifetime and we've come back not only with rested bodies but also restored souls . It's a funny thing to fall so fast in love with a place so far away, but I can safely say that South Africa has stolen our hearts.

Whether you're hitting up Figawi, kite surfing in the Carolinas, enjoying crab cakes and football down by the Chesapeake Bay, or heading up to north for some lake time... I hope it's a great one!

Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

When you're planning a wedding all you get is advice. Advice. Advice. Advice. And thank goodness, because how else would we all get through that crazy process? One of the best pieces of advice that we received was to not do a honeymoon right after the wedding, but rather plan it for a few months later. There are pros and cons to doing it both ways, but knowing us I knew we would need something else to look forward to after being on such a high during the wedding. At the same time I really wanted to share in that experience of being whisked off to some remote place to relish in what just went down... enter the 4 day mini-moon. The perfect way to have your cake and eat it too!

We chose to go to St. Lucia (so hot right now) for a few days post-wedding craziness to recharge the batteries and reflect on the wedding week. We stayed at the oh so beautiful Viceroy at Sugar Beach and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The hotel is stunning, the food is delicious, and the service is absolutely impeccable.
What is so cool about this hotel is that it's an old sugar plantation and mill with the original plantation home now serving as guest reception as well as restaurants and some very chic bars.I just love that it isn't your typical resort. It is very small and it feels so intimate. Normally I'm a "stick to my travel buddies" type of person when I'm at a resort, but we actually got to know a couple of the other guests and had a really great time chatting at the pool and over cocktails (not mutually exclusive).
Picture
We chose to stay down on the beach in a bungalow, but there are also these amazing cottages up on the hill that have absolutely stunning views of the harbor. It's pretty much heaven on earth.

So many people have asked to see pics from our mini-moon and I've been so hesitant to put them out there because we literally just lazed around like a bunch of lazies! You can actually hike the larger of the two Pitons (the smaller one is too steep), but Chip was too busy doing other things (exhibit A above) and we never seemed to get around to it... gotta save something to save for next time right?! I adore this picture of Chip snoozing so peacefully.

For me one of the highlights of the trip was the AMAZING spa. It was seriously beyond words amazing. The entire spa is built like a giant tree-house and each treatment room is its own tree-house bungalow. The services were to die for and I it was a truly can't miss experience (especially for spa aficionados!)
As you can see we spent a lot of time in over-sized robes... which is obviously a telltale sign of a great vacation.

Great American City:Austin,TX

I spent the weekend in Austin celebrating up a storm with some great friends and one bachelorette (also a great friend). I can't believe I'm saying this as Boston weather has been a little rough this spring, but the weather was worse in Austin than it was in Boston! We timed the trip perfectly with the one major storm Austin will have all spring (maybe an exaggeration). The rain was a bummer, but it didn't stop us from having a great time.

There are so many fun things to do and see in Austin that we didn't quite have time for, which is just the perfect excuse for another trip to Texas... or to move there permanently.

Stuck In Colorado

2/11/2014

I've been so super busy these days with work, wedding planning, and life in general that I haven't had a good night sleep or a single second to stop and reflect in weeks. But then I went out to Colorado to do some last minute planning with my mom in Vail and it started to snow....
...And it snowed.... and snowed... and snowed...
Picture
...It snowed so much that I was officially stuck in Colorado for a whole glorious extra day. So I took a sunrise stroll through Ford Park and found  the perfect location for our winter wonderland first look coming up in just a few weeks...
... laughed with my mom over cards and coffee and found out how Found out how excited you can make a Mom by installing Emoji on her iPhone...

And slept the kind of sleep you can only get when it snows.
