I've never really considered myself a bag person... I know.. it's shocking.

Bedroom Brainstorm

This redecorating stuff is so fun. I could spend hours looking around for interesting pieces... and that's how I spent most of a beautiful Sunday afternoon... locked indoors swooning over all the neat stuff out there and having major interior envy over my own "home decor" page on Pinterest (the best kind of inspiration!). Currently I'm coveting these for our bedroom revamp... decisions.... decisions....

Wedding Workout Routine

4/16/2014

Ever since we tied the knot I've received several inquires about how I got in shape for the wedding, so rather than continue to respond individually I am going to lay it all out here to be taken as just one point of view/ one option of many to try out there. The first thing I would say is that between working a very demanding job, pulling together wedding plans, and carrying on with everyday life (and living with a boy with the fastest metabolism in the world)...working out and eating right ain't easy. The second thing I'd say is that everyone is different and what worked for me might not be right for you so... you do you!

Wedding Workout:
  • I am a naturally muscular person so I tend to stay away from some of the aggressive strength classes at the gym and look for options that tone and lengthen. I was turned on to barre classes back when I lived in NYC, but didn't really truly appreciate them and see how wonderful they can be until I discovered Exhale Spa and Pure Barre. These classes completely transformed my frame and I seemed to just shrink and tone in places I never thought possible. I tired to go to barre classes three times a week in the two months leading up to the wedding.
  • I'm not a runner. This seems strange coming from someone who used to be a pretty darn obsessed trackster back in the day, but I think I just ran myself sick of running. However, because of this I often miss out on some essential cardio. For someone who hates running and cardio... in order for me to pick-up the pace and push myself I need something just shy of a drill Sargent screaming in my ear... enter Barry's Bootcamp. They will kick your butt.
1. Exhale Spa // 2. Barry's Bootcamp // 3. Pure Barre
Wedding "Diet":
  • Diet is a strong word. I don't think I've ever been on a diet nor do I think I ever will be. I just can't do it and I've accepted that, however I'm forever in awe of those who can really stick to something like that (please tell me your secret)
  • Starting about a month before the wedding I simply tried to make "the best choice" at every meal. I tried to eat a lot of veggies, and cut back on sweets and processed foods. I generally just tried to eat healthier (i.e., banana instead of skittles). Simple as that!
  • Now the kicker... by far the most effective thing I did was that  I stopped drinking alcoholic beverages for about 3 months before the big day. Yep. Cold Turkey. Aside from helping me wiggle into my dress, I felt great and was really productive. If you've lived the bulk of your 20's like I have...waking up on Sunday bushy tailed and refreshed is an eye-opening experience
So that's it! No big secrets here! And if you're ever at the Exhale Back Bay or Pure Barre in Burlington keep an eye out for me! I'm still addicted so have been trying to continue to go on a regular basis. The no drinking and eating right thing however has gone completely out the window...

Tiny Bite Sized Baby Steps

4/9/2014

Remember when I said I was taking this whole apartment revamp thing one step at a time... well they might be more like tiny bite sized baby steps. I just can't quite seem to find the time to do more than that, but as they say... slowly but surely wins the race... or something like that.

I don't know about you, but I sort of feel bad for paper towels. They are such an essential part of our lives and do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to picking up after us... and how do we reward them? By sticking them on these terribly cheesy paper towel holders and them leaving them to linger awkwardly in the corners of our kitchens. Just the thought of a standard paper towel holder makes my skin crawl (a bit dramatic)... it's a pet peeve to say the least.
Picture
At least that's what I thought until I stumbled upon this lovely copper piece of piping from Nine & Twenty. It was love at first sight and thanks to my personal live-in handyman...oops I mean my loving husband... I now have one hanging proudly in my kitchen showing paper towels the respect they deserve. A small step for the apartment revamp, but a giant leap for paper towels everywhere.
Get your's here!

Great American City:Austin,TX

I spent the weekend in Austin celebrating up a storm with some great friends and one bachelorette (also a great friend). I can't believe I'm saying this as Boston weather has been a little rough this spring, but the weather was worse in Austin than it was in Boston! We timed the trip perfectly with the one major storm Austin will have all spring (maybe an exaggeration). The rain was a bummer, but it didn't stop us from having a great time.

We stumbled upon the "I love you so much" wall... and I loved it so much I forgot to take a picture, so I  borrowed one from here
Perlas// Delicious Seafood
Salt Lick BBQ//Vegetarians beware... there is a lot of meat in Texas... and we enjoyed it thoroughly

Jo's//Totally Adorbs.com coffee joint... The perfect ending to a great weekend.

There are so many fun things to do and see in Austin that we didn't quite have time for, which is just the perfect excuse for another trip to Texas... or to move there permanently.

I didn't shiver and attempt to turtle as far into my winter coat as possible when I walked out of my front door this morning. There may be an end to this winter after all! I don't want to jinx anything but..... Happy Spring!

Spring is all about new beginnings and there are so many new things to be excited about. Newlywed bliss... great friends moving into town... great friends growing their families (aka more babies and puppies to snuggle)... and so much more.
